Can a supplied key or fob be programmed?

The listing says it fits. The case looks right. There are still a few things to check before anyone can promise a working key.

Tell the provider you already have the part

A customer-supplied key or fob needs its own discussion. Ask whether it can be accepted before travelling, arranging a visit or ordering another one. A service that supplies its own parts may have different arrangements for a part bought elsewhere.

Keep the packaging, the listing and any part number available. Include the vehicle's year, make and model and whether the part is new or has been used. The number of buttons and the shape of the shell are not enough to confirm compatibility.

Cutting, remote buttons and starting are separate

The blade may already fit the door while the car still refuses to start. The remote buttons may work while the starting-authorization part remains unready. Say exactly what has already been done and what result you get now. Simply describing the key as programmed can hide the part of the job that is still missing.

A replacement case is another different purchase. It may be intended to hold electronics from an existing fob rather than provide a complete new key. Read what you actually bought and avoid discarding the old key until the proposed use is clear.

A working key changes the request

If you still have a key that starts the car, say so and keep it available. If every working key is gone, explain that at the outset. The work and parts needed can differ. An online procedure for adding a spare is not proof that an all-keys-lost request can be handled the same way.

Confirm support for the exact vehicle and the supplied part. Some parts may be unsuitable for reuse or for the work required. You should understand what can be attempted, what result is being quoted and what happens if the supplied part cannot be used.

Check the finished functions

Ask which functions are included: door access, remote buttons, engine starting and any separate blade. Test those agreed functions before the work is finished. Keeping the result specific helps avoid a disagreement about whether a remote-only task was meant to produce a complete starting key.

For a Dallas visit, give the actual car location, including parking details where needed. Permission to work on the vehicle still needs to be established even though you supplied the part. See fob replacement and programming for the related service.
