Finding the right entrance or parked car in Dallas

You know where you are. The person coming to meet you needs enough detail to find the same place.

The street address is the starting point

A building may have its main entrance on one street and its garage entrance on another. An apartment can have a leasing office, resident entrances and separate parking access. The name you use every day may not be the name shown at the entrance.

Begin with the full address and the city. Dallas, Irving, Plano and other metro cities are separate places, even when a destination is casually described as being in Dallas. Then add the entrance or parking details that bring someone from the street to the actual door or car.

For a car, find the parking place

Use the garage or lot name, level, row and any nearby signs. Add the vehicle's make, color and a useful description. A photograph of a public sign can be clearer than a pin that lands on the building roof. Keep private access codes and vehicle documents out of public messages.

If you have walked away to wait somewhere safer or more comfortable, say where the car remains and how to contact you. Your current phone location may be different from the work location. Don't move into traffic or approach damaged equipment to improve a description.

  • Building or venue name
  • Actual vehicle entrance
  • Garage or lot, level and row
  • Vehicle description and a way to reach you

For a property, name the door

A shop's front glass door is a different job from a staff entrance at the back. A residential lockout may concern your own unit rather than the shared building door. Give the unit or suite and explain which entrance is involved, along with who can authorize the work.

Access arrangements belong in the conversation too. A gate, controlled lobby or resident-only garage should not be assumed open to a visitor. The manager may need to coordinate entry. You do not need to publish the building's private entry instructions online.

A landmark helps; it doesn't replace the details

An Uptown destination or a North Dallas retail landmark can help with general orientation. It does not identify every parking entrance or the correct municipality. Airport jobs need an additional check: DFW and Love Field are separate airports with different parking areas.

Once the location is clear, discuss the actual request and current availability. A route on a map does not establish an arrival time, permission to enter or an arrangement with a venue. The airport parking guide covers the details that matter after a flight.
